Chad went to the Twins game tonight with some buddies, so I was flying solo with the kids. Chad's parents called to ask if we wanted to go to some sloppy joe & pie social/fundraiser thing at the little Lutheran church here in Hanover. I figured why not, so we went. Well first of all, we walk in and as I looked around I realized I was the youngest person by about 60 years. Perfect. There were four little old men up front singing and playing polka-style hymns on their instruments (trumpet, keyboard, accordian & guitar) - the kids thought it was the best thing ever. They ran up front and started dancing like maniacs, swinging each other around by the arm because at home when we hear polka music we do the little square dance thing. Gotta love it when your kids steal the spotlight from the old timers. Some people were smiling at the kids, but I did get a few scowls from people who apparently thought I needed to control the dancing machines. Anyway, when we sat down to eat, Carson looks over at the guy next to him who's hooked up to an oxygen tank and he yells, "Hey Mommy, whose vacuum is that?" - then he climbs out of his chair before I could grab him and starts trying to push the oxygen tank around like he's vacuuming. I was mortified. I was trying so hard to keep from laughing as I chased Carson down and returned the oxygen tank to the old man. The man just sort of looked at me as if he didn't fully comprehend what had just happened. We quickly finished our food and made a mad dash for the exit before Carson deprived anymore elderly men of oxygen.

I'm sorry, but that was funny. I'm sure it wasn't for you. And, having survived the toddlerhood of my Jacob, I can promise you that someday you will laugh about this.
